The All Progressive Congress in Kebbi State has called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate both the remote and immediate causes of Jega crisis that led to the destruction of the party’s billboards and business property.
While addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat, on Sunday the Public Relations Officer, Isah Adalaf, said APC was saddened over the avoidable violence that broke the existing peace between the people of Jega irrespective of political and religious affiliations because of its status as a commercial hub.
The party therefore called on other political parties in the state and their leaders to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters and commit themselves to peaceful democratic engagement.
The party’s publicity secretary said the APC would continue to support every lawful effort to protect lives, secure communities and preserve democratic participation in the state. “Jega must remain peaceful,Kebbi must remain peaceful, democracy must prevail over violence and the law must prevail over impunity”, town,aid.
Asalafi was responding to the incident where protesting youths returning from a football match in Jega town over the weekend, shouting ‘wedont want’ eventually destroyed the bill boards of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and those of Governor Nasir Idris
The youths, while moving along the major roads in the town were stoning and destroying APC posters and billboards that were mounted in strategic areas, also touched and broke windscreens of many vehicles belonging to a car dealer, JAYEWA MOTORS during the protest.
No immediate reasons was established for their action. but they were however, dispersed by security agents despatched to restore normalcy in the town.
