2027: ZLP inaugurates campaign council in Nasarawa, pledges economic revitalisation
The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has inaugurated its governorship Campaign Council in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to revitalise the state’s economy.
Alhaji Abubakar Giza, the ZLP Governorship candidate for Nasarawa State, while inaugurating the campaign council in Lafia, said that the State was blessed with fertile land, mineral resources, resilient people and a strategic location, but its full potential remains untapped.
Giza said his decision to contest after wide consultations was driven by concern for farmers struggling to access markets, youths seeking opportunities, civil servants desiring dignity, and families yearning for healthcare, education and security.
He unveiled his vision of a productive, secure and people-centred state anchored on economic revitalisation and job creation.
According to him, his administration will unlock the agriculture value chain, promote small and medium enterprises and attract investments that create real jobs.
Other pillars are education and human capital development, healthcare system strengthening to make affordable care a right, and security and social stability through collaboration with agencies and communities.
Giza promised to run a transparent and accountable government, with special attention to roads and amenities in Lafia and neglected rural areas.
“Women shall be given more elective and appointive Government positions above the 35 per cent inclusion quota framework to increase their representation in politics and decision-making bodies,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of the Campaign Council, Mr James Manzah, Director General of the Giza Campaign, said the candidate’s credibility has made the job easy, assuring that the party will run an issue-based campaign without bitterness.
He said that civil servants and teachers would be happy and relevant, as their welfare would be prioritised, and assured retirees of getting their entitlements as and when due.
Earlier speaking, Mr Cletus Ogah, state Chairman of ZLP, charged council members to see their appointment as a call to service and urged them to work as a team with the party structure.
He said the campaign would focus on what more can be done to support farmers, indigenous businesses, strengthen primary healthcare, improve skills and create an investor-friendly environment.
Ogah said youths must be treated as partners in development, not campaign crowd, and women as central to governance.
He urged members to campaign peacefully across all local governments and wards, explaining how promises would be financed and measured.
“Elections will come and go, but Nasarawa State remains our home. Let us compete vigorously but preserve peace and unity,” he said.
