On Monday, the Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom, was the point of National Discourse when said he had been given the “red card” to leave the APC, a position the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole debunked.
Here are some things you need to know about Ortom
- He was born on 23 April 1961 and hails from Guma local government
- Was Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment from 11, July 2011 – 11 November 2015
- He attended St. John’s Primary School, Gboko in 1970 moved to St. Catherine’s Primary School, Makurdi in 1974, completing his primary education in 1976
- Attended Idah Secondary Commercial College, Idah in Kogi State in 1976
- He became a professional driver and later became a Salesmanship
- Enrolled at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and obtained both the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Certificate, in 1995 and Diploma in Journalism in 1998.
- Obtained an Advanced Diploma in Personnel Management in 2001 and Master of Public Administration in 2004 from Benue State University, Makurdi
- Earned a Ph.D from the Commonwealth University, Belize, through distant learning
- He was State Publicity Secretary of the National Centre Party of Nigeria (NCPN), State Treasurer of the All People’s Party (APP), State Secretary as well as State Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
- In 2007 he was Director, Operations, PDP gubernatorial campaign in Benue State
- In 2011, he was Director, Administration and Logistics, Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organization
- He was PDP National Auditor before his appointment as Minister in 2011
- Terhemen Tarzoor of PDP main rival in 2015 governorship election
