150 students showcase project at NSSEC exhibition

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has emerged winner at the second edition of National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) exhibition organised for students in the 36 states and FCT.

Lagos State came second while Cross River State came third position in the exhibition.

The exhibition listed projects ingenuity of over 150 selected science students from across the country.

At the closing ceremony of the exhibition in Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Dr Suwaiba Ahmad, urged Nigerians to see education as cornerstone for national development.

Suwaiba was represented by a Director, Senior Secondary Education at the Ministry, Mrs Binta Abudulkadri.

“Before now, NSSEC is the only organisation that had no quality assurance agent that superintend over all senior secondary schools in Nigeria.

“But with the assistant of our former permanent secretary, Sonny Echono, the moribund process was revived and the result is what we are seeing today.

“The only way by which the country can move forward is to resuscitate our technical know-how and to encourage our science students to inbibe science technology and engineering because that is the only way we can experience breakthrough,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Dr Iyela Ajayi called for collaboration from development partners and other stakeholders to promote science and vocational education in the country.

“We have witnessed the creativity and brilliance of young Nigerians who have demonstrated their ability to address critical challenges through science, technology and innovation.

“This exhibition has highlighted the price our commission has made in advancing senior secondary education and fostering innovation among senior secondary students.

“With the collaboration from partners, we are creating pathways for Nigerian students to become leaders in innovation and technology,” he said.

Augustine Daniela, a student of Government Science and Technical College, Garki, appreciated the organisers for the event while promising to do more in the next exhibition.
