By Sunny A. David, Onitsha
As the 2019 general election draws near, the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant bodies to embark on aggressive sensitization of voters on the need to take active part during elections has been stressed.
Speaking to newsmen at Atani the Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu decried the lukewarm attitude of eligible voters in participating in elections stating that more sensitization and voter education are needed to check the ugly trend.
Hon. Awogu who described democracy as the best form of government cautioned politicians against acts capable of truncating it.
The council boss charged Nigerians to see this year’s general elections as a National project warning the electorate against vote buying and selling.
He called on Nigerians to only embark on those programmes that will promote peace and unity.
The Ogbaru Boss charged candidates of various political parties to only embark on issue based campaigns rather than that of name calling and hate.
Hon. Awogu reminded eligible voters of the need to safe guard their Permanent Voter Cards which he said is the only tool they will use to enthrone God fearing and credible leadership.
