APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu is a critical stakeholder in Nasarawa West Senatorial District being its former representative
By Francis Nansak
Emerging facts about aspirants contesting for the Senate in 2023 from Nasarawa West Senatorial District of Nasarawa State are of mixed reactions.
Already, in both the ruling All Progressives Congress and the major opposition People Democratic Party, there are those who had consulted and made their interest known.
These class of politicians are Honourable Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, Barrister Shuaibu Labaran Magaji and the zonal chairman all of the APC, Architect Shehu Tukur whose interest has not been open.
And in the PDP are the likes of Honourable Angama Wiegbe, Alhaji Umar Galadima and a one-time Senate candidate, Alhaji Aliyu Tafida.
However, scrutinizing from public feedbacks, there appears to be mixed reactions from the electorates.
While the general views was hinged on free, fair and credible elections in 2023, the take of some stressed that with or without a fair election, whoever God gives the opportunity to represent the constituency should make the people feel the impact of representing them.
Engineer Bala Danjuma from Nasarawa, a lecturer with the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, said if morality can be brought to table, he will rather prefer that Honourable Wadada be given a trail. Buttressing his claims that Wadada is a fine administrator and politician from the western zone has proofed that while he represented Keffi, Kokona and Karu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for two tenures.
And from Keffi, a pundit said under the current arrangement, it is rather unfortunate that the APC is not ready to put its house in order.
The pundit pointed out that there is virtually no aspirant in the APC that is not looking up to the governor to be anointed or endorsed by him. He added that if politics will continue in endorsement of persons, then there is no need claiming that we are practicing democracy.
The pundit however advised that if truly the APC, the ruling party, desires to be seen as different from what was the practice under the PDP, it should allow for level-playing ground without the interferences of the governor, state chairman or any officer of the state.
“I am afraid the truth is that all the political crisis before, during and after elections is masterminded by those who want their candidate to emerged winner, but this is not healthy for our country.
One of the recent developments was the unsubstantiated claims that Governor Abdullahi Sule at a meeting with supporters of Barrister Magaji. This had further generated tension among the camp of Honourable Wadada.
And with the not too sure appearance of Shehu Tukur, from Keffi, believed to be closed to the national chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, there has been disquiet among Barrister Magaji camp who was earlier also rumoured to be having the backing of Senator Adamu.
Be that as it may, the PDP is not taking it cool as among its aspirants for the senatorial seat as the permutations continue to soar higher.
Those comfortable with Honourable Angama are of the view that Nasarawa west has never produced a Christian senator since the return of democracy in 1999.
And though not too much was heard of religion disposition in the camp of Galadima but he will have a lot of hurdles to overcome being a first timer, although he is believed to be the choice of Senator Walid Jibrin, the Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman of the PDP.
Give and take, the ruling APC has more aspirants of high reputation whose supporters are actually well spread in their thousands across the senatorial zone, unlike the PDP that almost all those seeking the Senate position are new into the game of electioneering intrigues.
Not withstanding their being greenhorns, undermining their capacities under the present polarized interest in the APC, the PDP will give them a run for their might.
Apex News Exclusive observed that with the tensed nature at which those looking up to becoming their party sole candidates, there is also rumour of defection especially among supporters of the APC aspirants.
And should this happened, it will leave a fresh task on the new National chairman of the APC, Senator Adamu, who is a critical stakeholders from the zone.
