The miners, comprising of women and youths across the state in their hundreds converged at Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area and handed over keys to an office they donated as campaign office for the governorship aspirant on Sunday.
Led by their Chairman, Gyang Gambo, who said it is the first time in the history of miners in the state to come together in support of a politician.
Gambo stated reason for their support basing their meeting as a block on the premise that General Sura was a soldier with a distinct National character and at the moment as an aspirant for the liberation of Plateau people from the challenges of insecurity with a view to boosting the economy of plateau state.
He said “We have never taken side with any politician since 1999 when democracy was again reintroduced to the country, but today we are all out as miners in the state to support our aspirant, John Sura.
“We are today donating a campaign office to our Governorship aspirant in anticipation that he will be the one to take Plateau out of its present insecurity, praying that he will succeed as our Governorship flag bearer for the PDP,” he said.
Contributing, the representative of women in mining, Mrs Chundung Fom, said the time has come for Plateau people to be liberated from sleepless night ,having Brigadier-General Sura in the race for Plateau State Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
She called on the delegates to shun selfish interest and monetory inducement but consider Plateau liberation as a project for the safety of all.
“I want to add here also that there are some of us the miners who are delegates and many are willing to work hard for the actualization of the liberation mandate.
“Our prayers and appeal to all is that John Sura be considered during the primary and the general election to become our next governor, so that Plateau can be liberated from attacks from unknown gun men” She appealed.
Responding, Brigadier-General Sura, while thanking the miners for their gesture, said by the Grace of God, he will be focused and work towards returning PDP in power on the Plateau.
He said “I will remain eternally grateful to you for this donation which goes to show that plateau Miners and people of the state are willing to be liberated from the scourge of insecurity and economy backwardness.”
Brigadier-General Sura, also assured the people that if given the mandate he will ensured that the miners get access to some modern mining equipment, despite that they are capital intensive.
He promised that he will go into partnership with some institutions and countries that are interested in investing on mining businesses in order to boost the economy of the state and also create more windows for miners to earn a better living.
