The Executive Chairman of Bogoro Local Government Area in Bauchi State, Hon. Iliya Habila has turned down overtures to declare interest to contest any elective office in the 2023 General elections saying that he is contented in his office as Council Chairman for now.
Habila while reacting to the various calls on him to declare interest stated that, “Presently, I am under a mandate of the Chairmanship of Bogoro LG which tenure is yet to expire” .
He stated that, “As the electioneering and electoral activities into various positions in our country gain an exciting momentum, I have been inundated with calls and messages as well as visits by my ardent supporters and political allies as to whether I have obtained forms to contest any position or not”.
The Bogoro LG boss added that, “While these calls and show of love and affection are from genuine concerns and vote of confidence on my humble leadership qualities, contest for political positions go beyond mere aspirations ! There are more to it than meets the eyes” .
He added that, “While I appreciate all those who have asked me to vie other positions in our polity and assure them that I would have answered their clarion call, but for the fact that it is expedient on me to discharge this onerous task of serving the rural community. It is my utmost belief that the remaining period of my tenure will witness more dividends of democracy and good representation for our rural community”.
He added that, “However, for those who know our LG very well, they will always appreciate and value selfless service from anyone; they would keep tab on what you are doing and tell you to your face how you discharged your duties” .
Iliya Habila further said that, “I therefore, urge all those seeking the mandate of the people to re-examine themselves and their promises, collaborate with our administration in serving the electorate”.
“Though we are made different in nature and character, selfless and good leaders can easily be seen: not amassing wealth for their business empires to the detriment of the electorate; not exhibiting attitude of I am the best or I solely did everything; being honest and not playing double standards where we need to tell the people government’s direction or position of truth on any matter regardless of our political interests”, he stressed.
He stressed that, “Bogoro delegates and the overall voters are more enlightened than ever before. So it behooves on all to respect their sensibilities in the process of seeking their support” .
He therefore, wished all aspirants good luck as he welcome them on board to join hands with the Governor of the state, Sen. Bala A. Mohammed to consolidate on the gains recorded in developing the rural community.
