As a way of dousing electoral tension and disinformation on political issues in the country, the INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voters Education, Mr Festus Okoye will speak in Calabar on political disinformation.
Okoye made the confirmation of his readiness to speak in a 1-day public lecture to be organised by Sparkling FM radio station next week Thursday, 12 May 2022 to mark its fourth anniversary.
Chairman of the events planning committee, Ota Udeh said disinformation has caused the spread of violence through the use of the media.
“It is for this reason that Okoye has agreed to sensitize political actors against spread of disinformation ahead of the general elections.
“Election in Nigeria has been characterised by violence misinformation, vote buying but this is time we need to change the narrative as individuals and organization”.
He further stressed that, “as a station we have seen the need to spread the message of peace for proper education and sensitization.
“We hope to build a peaceful Nigeria and a better Cross River State through proper sensitization and quality broadcasting.”
The event which will be interactive will offer insights on how prepared the electoral umpire in Nigeria is for the forthcoming elections.
