The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has urged Ndigbo to take advantage of the extension for the collection of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, till January 29, 2023, to collect their PVCs and cast ballots for issues that will benefit everybody, not just their own interests, reports our correspondent.

The Bishop who made the call on Sunday during the 8th Investiture Ceremony of St Patrick’s College, Awka at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, said no one could pick between two evils and expect good to result.

Bishop Ezeokafor expressed concern that Nigerians always had to choose between two horrible options that would not result in anything positive, but said that people must occasionally act honourably in order to be able to elect the proper politicians.

“As elections are coming, people must learn to do the right things and vote for the person that is good, Nigerians are used to making choices between evil and lesser evil but evil is evil and you can’t choose between two evils and expect things to be good; it’s not possible.

“As Christians, don’t make choices for selfish interests. If you do, you shouldn’t be called Christians and your choice should be for common good and for what benefits others.

“You can’t be a good Christian if you are not a good citizen and if you do that, you would be deceiving yourself.

“Christians should be good citizens by making the right choices. Jesus Christ didn’t die for himself to benefit from it. He died so that others would benefit and we should all learn from that,” the Bishop charged.

Earlier, the Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Dr.  Chibueze Ofobuike, joined Bishop Ezeokafor to appeal to Nigerians to vote conscience, competence and not money-bags.

The Transition Chairman who made this appeal while playing the role of the Chairman of the occasion at the 8th Investiture ceremony of St. Patrick’s College, Awka, charged them to vote wisely by selecting the most qualified candidates in the next elections.
