Bauchi Assembly passes boundary development agency bill into law to check communal clashes among border communities

Bauchi State House of Assembly, on Wednesday during its plenary, passed into law, a Bill for a law to establish Bauchi State Border Communities Development Agency. 

This is coming in its determination to reduce to the barest minimum, issues of inter-communal clashes between various boundary communities in the state which had led to lost of lives and properties especially farmlands and produce.

The bill was passed into law after the report of the House Committee on Special Duties on a Bill for a law to establish Bauchi State Border Communities Development Agency was laid before the House by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Baballe Abubakar Dambam representing Dambam/Dagauda/Jalam Constituency).

The Committee in the report, explained that it had engaged all relevant stakeholders to a public hearing in which inputs were gotten from them on the necessity of the establishment of such an Agency.

The Committee highlighted the importance of the Bill and recommended that the House should pass it into law and the House unanimously adopted the recommendation of the report.

Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu Azare representing Madangala Constituency requested the House to allow a Bill for a law to establish Bauchi State Border Communities Development Agency to undergo third reading. 

Upon approval by the House Members, the Speaker directed the Deputy Clerk of the House, Lamara Abdu Chinade to carryout the third reading after which the Bill was therefore passed into law.

Also during the plenary, the report of the House Committee on Appropriation on the Bauchi State 2023 Local Government Areas Appropriation Bill was laid by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abdulkadir Umar Dewu representing Kirfi Constituency.

Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation Hon. Abdulkadir Umar Dewu requested the House to allow the Bauchi State 2023 Local Government Areas Appropriation Bill undergo second reading and was seconded by Hon. Dan’umma Bello representing Giade Constituency.

Upon approval by the Members, the Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman directed the Deputy Clerk of the House to carryout the second reading. 

The Bill was thereafter referred to the House Committee on Appropriation and was given two weeks to report back.

The House thereafter adjourned plenary to Tuesday, 4th April, 2023 as moved and seconded by the Majority and Minority Leaders respectively.
