Politicians in the country have admonished not to wait for election year before going back to feel the pains of the electorate who they always desert immediately after conduct of elections.

The call was made by a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Amb Yusuf Maitama Tuggar while speaking to Journalists shortly after he commissioned water projects in Garin Makau and Karin Kachal, hard to reach villages in Gamawa LGA of Bauchi State.

He decried a bad behaviour that has become a norm among politicians who has formed the habit of only going back to the people at the end of tenure seeking for renewal.

According to him, “There is no point waiting for another 4 years before going back to your people, they need you always, find time to go and see them, they will be happy and ready to support you with their votes.”

He said that, “The electioneering period has passed, a new administration has been inaugurated, but, here we are to do something that will make life meaningful for the people. We are not here to solicit for any vote but to Commission a project.”

Yusuf Maitama Tuggar also distributed food items to the communities especially women and children who he lamented are bearing the negative effects of bad governance.

According to him, the cause of the bad governance at the grassroots level is the loss of autonomy by the Local Government which is the third tier of governance in the country.

He said that,”Somebody who could not perform as a LGC Chairman has now been elected to represent you at the State House of Assembly where laws are made for good governance and progress of the people, do you think he can make any positive impact.”

The Ambassador stressed the importance of effective and efficient representation urging the electorate to always elect someone who has their interest at heart and will work for their development.

One of leaders of the communities in Kari Kachal, Yau Mohammed commended the politician for remembering them saying that they had suffered the hardship of lack of good source of drinking water in the area.

According to him, they trek 15km daily before they can get water to during saying, “with this here now, issue of good drinking water has become a thing of the past for them.

Another villager, a woman lamented that they had suffered neglect by the government for a long time expressing happiness that finally, someone has remembered them and alleviated their suffering.
