Adamawa State Government has ordered the closure of 30 boarding junior secondary schools due to security concerns.
The government announced the closure of 30 boarding junior secondary schools out of 34 in the state.
According to a statement from Mrs Wilbina Jackson, the Commissioner of Education and Human Capital Development, the shutdown will take effect on September 6, 2021, and will last until further notice.
The action, according to the statement was a proactive measure to guarantee the safety of the kids in light of Nigeria’s insecurity.
The state government’s action came amid an uptick in banditry in Nigeria, which has resulted in the kidnapping of hundreds of pupils across the country.
The following four schools will not be affected by the closure: Yola’s Government Girls Junior Secondary School (GGJSS), Yola’s General Murtala Mohammed College, Jada’s Special School, and Mubi’s Special School are among the schools in the state.
“With effect from September 6, 2021, the Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development wishes to announce that 30 boarding junior secondary schools out of 34 in the state have been de-boarded. All of the government’s 30 junior secondary schools will now be day schools. ” Government Girls Junior Secondary School Yola, General Murtala Mohammed College Yola, Special School Jada, and Special School Mubi are the four schools that are not affected.
“Due to the current state of constant security, this becomes obligatory.
Due to the country’s security challenges and students’ young age, they must study under the supervision of their parents.
Students from the impacted schools will be assigned to the closest public junior secondary schools in their catchment or domicile areas. Stakeholders, PTA, ANCOPS, and others are to guarantee that this government policy is followed, according to the statement.
