A section of the fresh students

A total of 3,063 students admitted for the new academic for various degree courses at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi were on Friday, matriculated with a warning on them against involvement in any form of anti-socoal vices.
Speaking immediately after the students took the matriculation oath, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Muhammadu Ahmad Abdulazeez warned that the institution will not tolerate any act of indiscipline as the students pursue their 2021/2022 academic session activities.
According to him, “ATBU has zero tolerance for all kinds of vices and anti-social conducts such as cultism, examination malpractice, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism and truancy” .
The VC added that, “Here, we totally abhor these behaviors and they attract stiff punishments. Our duty is not only to give you access to knowledge but also to mold your character to conform to excellent societal values and norms in order to be responsible citizens of the country”.
Professor Abdulazeez who said that learning and research cannot take place under an atmosphere of chaos, violence, rancor, enmity, malice among others, warned that the University will not hesitate to expel any student found violating the rules and regulations governing its conduct.
He added that for any society one wishes to live and thrive, he or she must behave in conformity to its traditions saying, “We want to believe that your acceptance of the conditionalities of our offer of admission is an indication of your readiness to abide by our laws and statutes”.
The VC informed the students that the good conduct of their predecessors and exploits in the world of work has positioned the university in a very good light which the management is jealous defending it for the upcoming generations of students.
While congratulating the students for gaining admission into the University, the VC advised them to familiarize themselves with the ‘dos and don’ts’ of the University in order to avoid unceremonious graduation.
Professor Abdulazeez who also advised the new intake to pay due attention to the entire orientation Programme of the institution, said that the university is, through TETFUND and some donor agencies doing everything possible to ensure an acceptable standard in infrastructure and other educational facilities.
He assured that the management will continue to provide the necessary conducive environment for meaningful academic work to take place as much as the lean finances accruable to University will permit.
He then called for support from the students to enable the management of the University realize her lofty goal of transforming them into job creators and not job seekers.
“I plead with you to use the facilities in place to enable you succeed. As critical stakeholders and custodians of these facilities, you should use them wisely and guard them jealously for your benefit and those coming after you’, he said.
The Vice Chancellor said that 60 students were admitted in the College of Medical Sciences, 114 for Faculty of Agriculture, 715 in Faculty of Engineering, 536 students in Faculty of Environmental Sciences , 225 in Faculty of Management Sciences while Faculties of Science and that of Technology Education got 990 and 375 slots respectively.
