Bauchi First Lady urges civil societies to sensitise on dangers of sexual, gender-based violence

The Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad has called on the women groups , Civil Society Organizations in the state to put more effort in sensitizing the general public on the dangers of Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed made the call at the commemoration of International Women’s Day held at the banquet hall of government house Bauchi.
The state first lady called on the women groups most especially FIDA to put more effort in educating women and also enlightening them with the necessary information that will guide them to have more knowledge on the SGBV and also Child right act, so as to know how to protect themselves .
She stressed the need for parents to put more effort in educating their wards and also to be vigilant, saying that such will help them in disassociating with bad companies.
Earlier in her welcome address, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Hajara Jibrin Gidado said they invited some public analysts to re-enlighten women on issues that mostly affect them, saying that the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed has been favourable to women in Bauchi State.
Hajara Gidado also said, office of the state firstlady, Federation Of Women Lawyers and her office will collaborate so as to ensure they protect women from any form of violence and also to create skills acquisitions for them to be self reliant.
She therefore commended the state Governor for his tireless efforts in supporting what ever comes from her office , she therefore prayed to Allah to reward him abundantly.
In her goodwill message, Bauchi State Chairperson of National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Barrister Shafa’u Ladan commended the state government for assenting to a law that stipulates life sentence for culprits of SGBV.
She called on the women to avail themselves the opportunity by seeking for redress in the court of law.
Highlights of the occasion was the donation of an Ambulance Vehicle to the Gynecology Department of the state specialist hospital by the firstlady through her pet project Almuhibbah Foundation and distribution of empowerment items to some selected vulnerable beneficiaries.
The items includes sewing and grinding machines, wheelchairs and cash.
