Rev. Jolly Nyameh, former Governor of Taraba State

By Stephen Nuhu

It is fairly interesting to read the piece by one Auwal Aboutrika with the title “Nyameh a political prisoner, the celebrated convict and the confusion ahead of 2023” and the unnecessary urge to heat up the polity ahead of the governorship election in Taraba State.
While the writer said “Nyameh’s release is a blessing to him, his family and his beneficiaries. He was a supposed Taraba Political compass until some scary scenarios that faded away the glories earned during his reign.” He, however, quickly deviated when he mentioned that “Nyameh is currently celebrated by his proponents, harbingers, perfidy and treasonous people who instigated the conspiracy theory that led to his incarceration. Most of them wants to use his pardon to gain Political favour from his mumuye tribe and the Horst of his followership who were his protagonists when in power.”
Aboutrika also in the write-up said “Nyameh was imprisoned as APC card carrying Member, what is now confusing is the gospel he preaches when predominant people of Taraba North and Central paid him visit back then when in dungeon, he was quick to condemn what is called a political dominance by the southern part of the state, citing that it’s a supposed rotational system where by the north should be the one producing the next state governor.”
It is hardly unbelievable that just days after his release from prison that the former governor would be engaged in such political comments when he is yet to fully recover from the trauma of prison environment. I think this is an imagination of the writer and has no basis at all.
As a statesman, Rev. Nyameh cannot decent so low to talk about the dominance of by people of southern Taraba State even when it is clear governorship should return to northern part of Taraba State.
Even as I may not want to draw the long sword against Aboutrika’s opinion, when it comes to the governorship is very apt and not cumbersome as many would want it to look at to what part of Taraba State should produce the next governor. In fact, after the eight years of Rev. Jolly Nyameh and Danbaba Suntai (By extension of others after his unfortunate plane crash) and that of the outgoing Darius Ishaku, it is common sense that the northern part of the state produces the next governor.
The writer’s imagination of dragging the name of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the Taraba State governorship election, Hon. Danladi Baido into whether Rev. Nyameh supports his candidature and allegation of not visiting his Principal while in prison the whole of 2021 is absolutely wrong and leaves more to be desired.
Apparently, Rev. Nyameh knows those that visited him in prison and those who did not and not the writer putting down names in a register that he was not asked to.
The former Governor might not make public the candidate to support in the upcoming governorship election but surely, he would make some decisive statements and that is what is making some candidates jittery about their fate.
The insinuation in what the writer claimed Rev. Nyameh has an “hidden fuss with his Political Godson Baido” is a hallucination. There was never a fuss in whatsoever manner and Hon. Baido respects his boss.
