Former Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Dr Abdulmumuni Jibrin, has thanked the Speaker of the House for appointing him Chair of the ad hoc committee to investigate recovery and disbursement of what is termed “Abacha loot” from 1998 to date.
Representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency of Kano State, Dr Jibrin, in a tweet from his verified twitter handle @AbdulAbmJ, he said “I Thank @YakubDogara and the House for trusting me and members of the Ad hoc committee with this vital investigation on Abacha recoveries.”
According to him, “Our mandate is to find out how much has been recovered and how such monies were utilised from 1998 to date. We will get this done God grace.”
At the inauguration of the committee, Speaker Dogara explained that it is expected to dig out all recoveries and mode of payments, as well as how the monies were disbursed.
The formation of the committee followed a resolution brought by the House under matters of urgent public importance by Sunday Karimi (PDP, Kogi).
Karimi said it was due to the urgent need to stop the Federal Government from disbursing the last tranche of ‘Abacha loot’ soon to be recovered from Switzerland.
