The Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has said the government is committed to the creation of Bassa Chiefdom in order to curb the incessant clashes with their Ebira neighbours.
He made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja at a meeting with leaders of Bassa community. He had earlier met with leaders of the Ebira Community.
Al-Makura expressed concern that it was regrettable that the crisis of 1996 had led to mutual suspicion and hatred.
He said since the crisis there has been no love lost. “The devastation I witnessed when I returned from the lesser hajj was disturbing,” the governor said.
Apex News reports that among those who spoke at the meeting included President, Bassa Cultural and Development Union (BCDU), Barrister Yusuf Wodi and the immediate past Nigeria Ambassador to Poland, Samuel Gimba.
They requested for the return of the displaced Bassa people to their home as most were farmers.
Some members of the State Executive Council, state Security Council, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Military, DSS and the Nigeria Police attended the meeting.
