Anambra appoints caretaker committee for Onitsha fruits, vegetable market

The Anambra State Government has inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the Onitsha Fruits and Vegetables Market, located behind Power Mike in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

The inauguration, held at the Governor’s Special Adviser on Trade and Markets’ office in Awka, was presided over by Chief Evarist Uba.

The Committee, charged with maintaining order, fostering a business-friendly environment, and implementing government policies, was urged to prioritize the needs of active market traders.

Chief Uba stressed that leadership should be free of political maneuvering and focused on fair representation. He warned that the committee, and its members, were subject to removal if they failed to meet expectations.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Barr. Samuel Ike, echoed the call for fairness and integrity.

Mr. Paul Okafor, the newly appointed Chairman, pledged an inclusive administration committed to addressing traders’ concerns and aligning with the government’s market development vision.

The committee’s full membership includes: Chairman, Paul Okafor; Vice Chairman, Alhaji Zuberu; Secretary, Ogochukwu Okafor; Assistant Secretary, Isaac Nchedo; Treasurer, Nkechi Nweke; Financial Secretary, Ifeyinea Ukpai; Provost, Uchenna Okemefuna; Assistant Provost, Alhaji Audu Yaro; Welfare Officer, Justina Ikpeawuche; Assistant Welfare Officer, Chinyere Anagbo

The committee will also be supported by: Sunday Onyeagbaru, Edward Inyang, Ngozi Arima, Sule Magaji, Uche Nwadike, Charles Egonu, Ikechukwu Nwabuisi, Celestina Osondu Ekeh, and Chioma Atu.

This appointment reflects the State government’s ongoing efforts to improve market management and stimulate economic growth.
