Anambra celebrates release of kidnapped reverend sisters, High Court Judge

Anambra State erupted in celebration following the release of two Reverend Sisters and a High Court judge who had been held captive.
Reverend Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, abducted a week prior, and the unnamed judge, kidnapped Saturday evening outside his Awka South home, were freed.
The judge’s release on Sunday, less than 24 hours after his abduction, prompted immediate jubilation among those gathered at his residence.
In a statement, Sr. Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, IHM Secretary General, confirmed the sisters’ unconditional release, stating they are in good health and expressing gratitude for prayers and support.
In a statement titled, “Notification of Release and Expression of Profound Gratitude for prayers and support”, Sr. Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, IHM Secretary General, announced the release of the Reverend Sisters, saying:
“I am pleased to inform you with joy that our dear Sisters, Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, who were kidnapped on the evening of Tuesday, 7th January 2025, have been released unconditionally and are in good health.
“We thank God and express our deep gratitude to all for your prayers and support throughout these challenging and uncertain days. May God be forever blessed through Mary, our Mother.”
The release of the kidnapped victims has brought relief to the people of Anambra State, who had been living in fear of kidnappings and other violent crimes.
The State government has been urged to strengthen security measures to prevent future incidents.
