Hundreds gathered in Onitsha, Anambra State, for the funeral mass of Hon. Justice Chukwunenye Azuka, a State lawmaker who was kidnapped and murdered on December 24, 2024.
His body was later found decomposing near the Second Niger Bridge.
The funeral, held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, was somber, with attendees expressing grief and demanding action against the rising insecurity in the State.

He stressed the need for sustained action against criminals.
Governor Soludo urged all to join forces to uphold the safety and dignity of Anambra communities.
Former Governor Peter Obi, also in attendance, described the situation in Anambra as difficult and worrying, though he expressed hope that collective action and investment could improve Nigeria’s overall security.
Senator Tony Nwoye, representing Anambra-North, remembered Azuka as a humble and peaceful man, vowing to support his family.
The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, emphasized the need for stronger support for the Executive branch in implementing the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.
Numerous dignitaries attended the funeral, including Senator Victor Umeh, Rt. Hon. Paschal Agbodike, and members of the State Executive Council.
