Anambra State government says it will partner prospective investors to boost production of spices for both consumption and export.
Governor Willie Obiano stated this shortly after an inspection tour of Tiger Food Production Company at Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Governor Obiano who spoke through his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke said that from what he saw on ground, the Company is committed to its services, promising that the government will see how to engage farmers in the State more in growing the raw materials needed for its production, which he said will be of immense benefits.
The Governor noted that the State government needs more investors to improve its Internally Generated Revenue.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr. Afam Mbanefo disclosed that the State government hopes to commence production of spices with one hundred hectares of land at Ndikelionwu and Ugbenu communities.
Mr. Mbanefo who said that Tiger foods has investment interest in chili pepper, Tumeric, Local Basil and vegetable, noted that partnering the firm has economic, social and political impact and benefits.
The Managing Director of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, Mr. Jide Ikeakor, expressed the agency’s readiness to explore new frontiers of opportunities with the Company.
The Managing Director of Tiger Foods, Mr. Don Ebubeogu appealed to the State government to help in identifying communities where such commodities could be grown and encourage people to cultivate them, pointing out that it is cumbersome for them to run the entire chain of cultivation, processing and export all alone.
