Anambra inaugurates new NUJ excos

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has inaugurated new officers, who will pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.
The new officers were inaugurated on Thursday, January 17, at the Council Secretariat in Awka, the state capital, after an election of officers held same day at the same venue.
The newly inaugurated officers include Emma Ifesinachi, Chairman; Francis Ekpone, Vice Chairman; Emma Uduagha, General Secretary; Alloysius Ofordile, Assistant Secretary; Ogemdi Ozoemena, Financial Secretary; Abuchi Onwumelu, Treasurer and Okechukwu Onuegbu, Auditor.
The only contested position was the position of Treasurer with Comrade Sir. Abuchi Onwumelu of Fides Chapel winning Betty Onuchukwu of Correspondents Chapel with 48 votes as against 22 votes.
Inaugurating the new excos, Comrade Petrus Obi, Vice Chairman of the NUJ in the South East, commended the Anambra State council of the NUJ for a successful election and inauguration.
He encourages aggrieved members of the council not to adopt the habit of evading congresses adding that the “national leadership is not ready to compromise the constitution for whatever reason.”
Comrade Obi, also tasked council members to lend their support to the new team, while urging the new executives not to allow their personal interest to override the collective interest of the union.
Responding on behalf of the new officers, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi, the reelected chairman of the union, pledged that his administration will sustain the tempo of good leadership, and promote the integrity of the union by eliminating quackery and raising the image of the profession in the state.
“We will not relent from ensuring that the welfare of members of the union is protected.
“We promise to ensure that before we complete this tenure, every member of NUJ in the state will be identified with it,” he said.
The Chairman thanked the union members for reposing him and his team the confidence to pilot the affairs of the council in the next three years
Comrade Sir. Ifesinachi added that members of the union who are bringing the name of the union to disrepute and those who are not qualified to be members will be brought to book by his administration.
In his remark, chairman of credentials committee for the Anambra NUJ election, Comrade Okey Maduforo, praised the council for a successful transition, while commending his committee for adhering to the constitution of NUJ in discharging its duties.
