Information officers in Anambra state have been admonished to rebrand themselves for effective service delivery.
This is in response to trending social media, where everybody striving to deliver news even ahead of trained journalists.
This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a one-day Information Management Conference of Anambra State Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The event was held on July 12 at the Head of Service Conference Hall, Secretariat Complex, Awka with theme: “Information Management In The Era of Social Media: The Challenges And The Way Forward.”
Participants/resource persons drawn from the academia and the media resolved that the social media was often biased and prejudiced, as such should not be allowed to overshadow messages from the conventional media.
The Ministry, then, commended Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State for his continued support and congratulated the Information Commissioner, Mr. C-Don Adinuba on his appointment.
The participants noted that information managers provide essential services for good governance and should be adequately remunerated for effective professional performance.
The conference called for sustenance of the event as it provided a forum for re-training of media professionals to enhance responsible journalism.
