Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Anthony Ifeanya, has assured government’s commitment towards creating a conducive environment for oil investors and addressing legitimate grievances of host communities most impacted by extractive industries.
Barrister Ifeanya gave the assurance when Ogwu-Aniocha Progressive Youth Association, Ogbaru Council Area, paid him a courtesy visit at Jerome Udeoji State Secretariat, Awka.
He promised to explore all avenues of peace to address all the problems between investors and host Communities of oil and other mineral resources, in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Acts, for the interest of making Anambra State a haven of industrialization as envisioned by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Barrister Ifeanya stressed the need for peaceful and harmonious coexistence between oil host Communities and licensees and by extension performing its corporate social responsibilities which include provision of social amenities to host communities and employment, among others.
The Commissioner called for genuine investors that will boost exploration of the natural resources given to the State by nature in order to shore up its revenue base.
Earlier, the Ogwu-Aniocha Progressive Youth Association, led by the President General, Mr. Chidi Eze and other stakeholders accused some oil industries of exploiting the community of their resources without the Community benefiting from them in anywhere.
They called for State government’s intervention in the Community, adding that most of the Community members have been rendered homeless as a result of conflict emanating from the exploitation.
