Anambra police hunts for man allegedly macheting 67-year-old mum to death in Nnewi

A 70-year-old woman, Mrs. Benedeth Ikegwuonu, has been butchered to death at Uruagu, Nnewi, allegedly by her first son, Chinedu.
The deceased met her untimely death in her own house, when Chinedu allegedly inflicted several machete cuts on her throat.
The second son of late Mrs. Ikegwuonu, Onyedika told the Police at Central Police Station Nnewi that his forty-two year old elder brother, Chinedu, committed the crime and bolted away with the machete.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, Police detectives attached to CPS, Nnewi led by the DPO visited the scene of the crime and rushed the victim to Akwudo hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Autopsy will be carried out on the corpse, while Police intensifies efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Meanwhile, the state police has also arrested twenty other suspects for various offences including armed robbery, and cultism.
Parading the suspects, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Umar, who said that the suspects were aged between twenty and twenty five, warned that the police will not relent in its efforts to stem the tide of crimes and criminality to its barest minimum as it has taken proactive steps towards reducing crimes in the state.
He counted visibility policing, criminal mapping, intelligence led policing, constant raids of black spots and criminal hideouts as some of the measures adopted in the battle Against criminals.
Commissioner Umar, stressed that the success story was made possible through the cooperation of the citizenry and determination to engender a safe and secure environment for all residents in the state and called on Ndi Anambra not to relent in their support to security agencies in the state.
Some of the suspects including twenty years old mother of one, Ujunwa Uchendu from Nkwelle Ogidi, said her reason for joining a robbery gang was to get ten thousand naira to bail her brother from police custody.
According to the police, all cases are under investigation after which suspects will be charged to court.
