APC congress: Bauchi APC not for Nana alone- Group reacts to his re-endorsement
By Akanji Alowolodu, Bauchi
A political pressure group called ‘Bauchi State APC Concerned Group’ has expressed its opposition to the re-endorsement of the incumbent state caretaker chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Uba Ahmed Nana by a coalition of 36 support groups for continuity as the party prepares for the state congress.
The APC concerned group asked party stakeholders and leaders to that they provided a fair level playing ground to all the candidates vying for the different offices within the party particularly the chairmanship.
Secretary of the group, Isma’il Alhassan Musa who addressed newsmen on Monday said that the party does not belong to Uba Nana alone or any other person opining that he has overstayed his welcome as state Chairman and should allow someone else to be there.
He accused Uba Nana as party Chairman of causing the defeat of the APC in the 2019 governorship election adding that the Caretaker chairman should rather resign but not recontest for the office of the party Chairman.
The group opined that, “It is our believe that since the party lost the 2019 governorship election to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party had remained in its shadows waiting for a new direction which was not forthcoming until now, and it has left so many members of the party in a state of helplessness, confusion and hopelessness”.
It will be recalled that Uba Ahmed Nana has been State chairman of the party for over eight years and after the expiration of his tenure, the national headquarters appointed him as caretaker committee chairman to supervise the congresses.
Only last week, a coalition of 36 APC women and youth support groups re-endorsed him to retain the office in the upcoming state congress slated for October 2021.
