Army releases Daily Trust Borno regional editor, Uthman Abubakar

The army in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Tuesday has released the Regional Editor of Daily Trust newspaper, Mallam Uthman Abubakar.
He was detained since Sunday alongside a reporter Mallam Ibrahim Sawab in what the military said a story in the Sunday edition of the paper “undermined national security.”
Sawab was earlier released.
This was contained in a statement by the Timothy Olanrewaju, Secretary, Borno State Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) on behalf of the chairman, Mallam Haruna Dauda Biu emailed to Apex News.
The statement said, Uthamn was in stable condition though his mobile devices are still with the military.
“This is good news to us but the struggle is not over yet. We shall continue to explore all diplomatic measures to deal with the situation at least for now,” Olanrewaju noted.
“We wish to thank you for your concern, support, love and advise. We are particularly encouraged by the efforts of the National President and the state council,” the statement stressed.
