The Anambra Youth Movement (AYM), has urged the public to exercise restraints over comments and speculations regarding the health situation of Ozo Jeff Nweke, a suspect in the alleged kidnap of Benjamin Ezenma.
In the statement signed by the chairman of the non-political, socio-cultural youth body in the state, Mr Johnson Maduka, the group lamented the intense public interest Nweke’s court appearance has generated.
The group said it has become imperative that people should respect judicial process and avoid sensationalism as court goes into examining Nweke’s health situation.
He said: “As the court examines Nweke’s health situation, backed by a medical report described by his lawyer as a consultant’s assessment, it is essential that we respect the judicial process and avoid sensationalism.
He noted that judiciary is a cornerstone of democracy, responsible for upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served to all parties involved in a case.
Consequently, the AYM boss said it is crucial that everyone must respect the processes and procedures of court, warning that people should avoid any action or comment that could potentially undermine the integrity of court process.
Public comments and speculations, said Maduka, about Nweke’s health situation could prejudice the judicial process
“It is essential that we allow the court to deliberate based on empirical evidence and expert testimonies, rather than speculation or hearsay” he said.
Maduka said trivializing the suspect’s health situations can have severe consequences, including “undermining the integrity of the judicial process and causing unnecessary distress to individuals and their families”.
Health issues, the AYM boss said, are complex and multifaceted, requiring sensitivity and respect.
Therefore,he said, in the interest of justice and respect for the judiciary, “we urge the public to exercise restraint in their comments and speculation regarding Nweke’s health situation”.
Continuing, he said: “By doing so, we can ensure that justice is served in a fair and impartial manner. For where there is a right, there is a remedy”.
