Wydad Casablanca forward, Michael Babatunde, says the Super Eagles will need a bit of self-belief to defy the odds and achieve great feat at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Babatunde who completed a three year deal worth $1.5m to the current CAF Champions League winners Wydad Casablanca from SC Qatar, remains confident that the Super Eagles will supercede expectations in Russia.
“It’s unfortunate I’m not part of the team, but I believe the Super Eagles will do well in Russia, they just need to believe,” the former Kryvbas and Volyn Lutsk star told CSN.
“The friendly against England was not a true reflection of our quality. We were laid back a bit. You could see that when Nigeria grew into the game they gave England a lot to worry.”
“I’m confident they will get past their tough group.”
The 25 year old attacking midfielder further revealed that he joined Wydad Casablanca because they showed interest in him more than any other club.
“I thank the Wydad Casablanca President for ensuring this deal materialized. He showed me how eager they were to sign me.
“I know that they have quality players but I’m prepared to show my worth now that I’m back to my second home, Morocco.” (Complete Sports)
