The hopeful gubernatorial candidate of People’s Democratic party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, has alleged that the state government in collaboration with some security agencies are planning to destabilize elections in the state through acts detrimental to its success.
According to the party’s governorship candidate, the ruling APC has orchestrated plans to arbitrarily arrest youth supporters of the opposition party without any cause.
The candidate made this known at a press conference in Bauchi where he said, “This act will jeopardize and undermine the preparations done by our political party, because some of these youths targeted are our accredited agents for the various elections”.
He also accused the state government for its planned use of traditional rulers whom, he said, are custodians and symbols of our cultural heritage which stands for peace, harmony and well-being.
Mohammed, also alleged that the Bauchi state government in conjunction with some security agencies planned to brand some vehicles with posters of PDP candidates, especially that of Reps Speaker, Yakubu Dogara with the intent to to put arms in those vehicles and blame it in PDP candidates.
“In breach of security operations, the government is planning to post mobile police to all PDP strongholds in the state to scare people not to come out to vote. This to us is unacceptable because kit contravenes the rules and regulations of engaging security agencies during elections the World over”.
He said the PDP has also unveiled plan by the ruling party to rig elections in many places, most especially Katagum, Jama’are and other outskirts of some Local Government Areas.
The PDP candidate cited example with such centres or places such as Unguwar Alhaji, Gindin Rimi, Unguwar Ganneri, Gilar, and Bundigi in Jama’are LGA, and Kofar Sarkin Azare,, Gambaki Tsakiya, Gangai Tsakiya, Gwashamai Bakin Rijiya, and Kajuru Fada in Katagum LGA.
“Bauchi state has 4074 polling stations and 1349 additional voting points (Baby Units) which are supposed to be done to the polling stations within the range of not more than 200 meters”.
Mohammed assured that they remained law abiding people, but if they are push to the wall, they will retaliate, stressing “We have to rise to self-defense under the law, but we will continue to remain humble and urge all our citizens to be calm.”
Senator Mohammed also assured the people of Bauchi State of fighting for their rights within the confines of the law, saying “We are ready to lay our lives if need be in order to protect our hard won democracy and secure freedom of our people”.
