Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman presides over plenary
By Akanji Alowolodu, Bauchi
Bauchi State House of Assembly on Tuesday during its plenary, unanimously approved two motions that will bring to an end, difficulties facing some communities across the state.
Under matters of urgent public importance, the member representing Katagum Constituency, Mukhtar A Suleiman extended the complaint of the people of his Constituency on border disputes between Asir and Baturiya of Hadejia Emirate in Jigawa State.
According to him, the border and farmland disputes between the communities have lingered for years in which the Jigawa state community have severally attempted to attack the Katagum Community but as community leaders, they always controlled the situation by consoling people so that they won’t be provoked by the antics or their neighbours.
Mukhtar A Suleiman cautioned that, if action is not taken, it will lead to a crisis that can result in loss of lives and property because the farmlands that people of Katagum have been using for more than 50 years are being forcefully taken over by people of Hadejia Emirate.
He therefore called on House to take urgent action on the matter.
Also, the Majority Leader, Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu representing Azare/Madangala raised a matter on urgent need for intervention by the Bauchi State Government in respect of General Hospital, Azare which has been without light for more than three months.
The Majority Leader who appreciated the State Government for reviving and renovating hospitals across the State, however observed that though the structures are put in place, the nitty gritty that will make the hospitals functional is not there.
According to him, “Azare being the second largest city in Bauchi State, its General Hospital has been without light for the past three months, you can imagine patients in the wards, there is no water and mosquitoes everywhere” .
The Majority Leader added that, “After making inquiries, I found out that there is huge balance of unpaid ‘NEPA Bill’ running into millions that led JED to disconnect the Hospital” .
“Considering the scarcity and cost of diesel, it will be difficult for the Government to continue servicing the generators but hospitals are where common man feel the impact of government, therefore I urge the government to look into the situation. It’s not all about building hospitals while running of the hospitals will become a problem”, he added.
Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu also advised that the Government should provide solar power alternative in all hospitals across the State because the situation is unbearable as people complaining and dying as hospitals are running without light for several months which is tarnishing the image of the Government.
In his response, the Speaker appreciated the efforts of the State Government towards renovating hospitals but stressed the need for the Government to provide essential services such as, security, sanitary and staffing because some hospitals are complaining they don’t have doctor.
The House thereafter adjourned to 10th May, 2022 as moved and seconded by the Majority Leader and the Minority Leader as contained in a statement by Abdul Ahmad Burra, Spokesperson to the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly.
