Bauchi communities vow sustaining open defecation-free status

Communities in Bauchi Local Government Area have pledged to maintain sustainability of free open defecation.

The communities of Liman Katagum, led the Ward Head, Alhaji Yakubu Ghani, expressed satisfaction with the current state of sanitation and hygiene in their area.

According to Alhaji Ghani, the success can be attributed to measures taken to ensure full sanitation of toilets and environmental hygiene, which has improved the health status of his people.

“We are committed to maintaining the sustainability of free open defecation in our community,” Alh Ghani said.

“We will continue to work with the government and development partners to ensure that our community remains open defecation-free.”

The communities commended the government and development partners for their support in achieving open defecation-free status.

Malam Abdullahi Yusuf, Maimuna Umar, and Sani Umar Liman Katagum assured that they will continue to use awareness for their health safety.

“We appreciate the support of the government and development partners in our efforts to become open defecation-free,” Malam and Yusuf Liman Katagum said.

“We will continue to work together to ensure that our community remains healthy and safe.”

A team of journalists visited the communities of Kangare, Liman Katagum, and Zungur to assess the situation on the ground. The team was led by Mr. Ishola Adeyemi.

“The purpose of our visit is to assess the facilities and talk to the communities about their experiences,” Mr. Adeyemi said. “We want to see firsthand how the communities are maintaining sustainability of free open defecation.”
