Bauchi Deputy Governor expresses worry over proliferation of traditional medicine practitioners, sellers, directs for action

Worried by the proliferation of traditional medicine practitioners and sellers across the state particularly within Bauchi metropolis and other towns, Bauchi State Government has directed for immediate action by all regulating agencies to step up to check the situation before it gets out of control.

State Deputy Governor, Sen Baba Tela expressed displeasure over the activities of the traditional medicine practitioners and  sellers who are stationed in strategic locations in Bauchi metropolis displaying their wares.

Baba Tela made his feelings known at the quarterly Meeting of the State TaskForce on Primary Healthcare (STF PHC), 2021 Recognition and Award Presentation Ceremony, organized by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, held at  the Banquet Hall of the Zaranda Hotel, Bauchi.

The Deputy Governor who is also the Chairman, STF PHC said that he was not condemning traditional medicine practice in its totality, but is worried especially when they are becoming a nuisance in the metropolis.

He then directed the State Ministry of Health, Bauchi Local Government Council and all other relevant agencies to look for a befitting place to relocate the practitioners stationed at Bauchi Emir’s Palace roundabout and state Ministry of Education. 

Baba Tela however expressed satisfaction over the cooperation and understanding shown by food sellers and the traditional medicine practitioners around the Emir’s Palace roundabout during the recent presidential visit to the state and urged them to maintain the spirit.

In a remark, the Executive Chairman of Bauchi local council, Alhaji Mahmood Babamaji pledged to do the needful to bring about sanity in the metropolis with regard to the traditional medicine sellers.

It  is a common place to see traditional medicine sellers display their stuffs at strategic locations within Bauchi metropolis thereby constituting nuisance to road users in the areas.
