Bauchi Governor Mohammed commends information commissioner, describes return of ministerial press briefing as citizens rights

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the State Ministry of Information and Communication and commended the Commissioner Usman Garba Danturaki.

The Governor also commended the staff of the ministry for their foresight and positive initiative to re-introduce the long abandoned tradition of Ministerial press briefing to showcase Government activities to the people.

The governor gave the commendation while officially declaring the two weeks relaunching of the Ministerial press briefing held on the 1 July, 2024 at the Auditorium of the Abubakar Umar Secretariat complex Bauchi.

Senator Mohammed who was represented at the ceremony by the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu, said ” The good People of Bauchi state who gave us mandate to Serve them are entitled as matter of right to be kept abreast of what the Government has been doing for the socio economic development of the State”.

According to the governor, “the responsibility for organizing the Ministerial press briefing is rest squarely on the Ministry of information and Communication”.

The governor, however used the forum to commend the state-owned Media organizations BATV and BRC for despite their financial challenges yet continue to promote and project the activities of the government considering their roles as Media outfits in providing feedback between the government and the general public.

He assured that at no distant time the Bauchi State Television would be linked to satellite in order to be able to compete with it’s contemporaries across the globe. 

While calling on private media organizations in the state to partner and support his administration’s commitment to better the lives of the citizens, Governor Bala assured that his administration will provide them with enabling environment to carry out their duties efficiently and effectively and should not hesitate to conduct any investigation on how any government agencies in the state is running it affairs.

The governor therefore appealed to all ministries and agencies to turn up fully and participate in the exercise to make it a success. He also directed the information commissioner to at the end of the Ministerial press briefing to compile and summarize the submissions of all MDAs and produce a compendium on the activities of the government for record and reference purpose,in the spirit of accountability and transparency.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Information and Communication Usman Garba Danturaki, expressed deepest appreciation to Bauchi State Government under the good and dynamic leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed for according the Ministry the opportunity to re-introduce the Ministerial press briefing by not only approving logistics to carter for the two weeks long exercise but for directing all the MDAs to cooperate with the Ministry of information by fully equipped, participate and present their score cards during the briefing to ensure success.

Danturaki said it is not out of place for me to use this opportunity to further Commend and thank the Workaholic Governor Bala Mohammed for creating additional directorates in the Ministry in order to revive and re-invigorate service delivery, the strengthening of ICT compliance in the Management and monitoring E-governance, the return of the BICT back to the Ministry and the continued support in the production of yearly Calendar and Diaries.

In his goodwill Message, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to the state governor, Comrade Mukthar Gidado commended Ministry of Information and Communication for reintroducing the ministerial press briefing and described the initiative as timely.

He used to occasion to commended journalists in the state for the total publicity on the activities of his boss Governor Bala Mohammed in the state and them to extend such gesture to relaunched ministerial press briefing.
