Bauchi launches health insurance scheme formal sector component, as Toro LG partners BASHCMA on service delivery

Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency (BASHCMA) has officially launched the formal sector component of its contributory health scheme for civil servants across the state.

The new initiative, which began on November 1, 2024, aims to improve healthcare access and reduce financial burdens on state employees.

Under the scheme, enrolled civil servants can now collect identification cards from designated BASHCMA Desk Officers located within their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

These ID cards allow beneficiaries to access healthcare services at their selected facilities across Bauchi State.

In a measure to enhance the affordability of healthcare, beneficiaries will only need to pay a 10% co-payment for prescribed generic medications.

In an effort to ensure that all eligible civil servants benefit from the scheme, BASHCMA has also announced a “mop-up” enrollment process.

This initiative is aimed at identifying and enrolling any civil servants who may have missed the initial registration, ensuring no eligible state employee is left out of the program.

On behalf of the agency, Hadiatu Suleiman Nuhu, BASHCMA’s Head of Media and Public Relations, expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed for the approval of the scheme.

She noted that the Governor’s unwavering commitment and support have been instrumental in bringing the programme to fruition, reflecting his administration’s priority on healthcare reform and the well-being of civil servants.

According to her, “Governor Bala Mohammed’s health initiatives through BASHCMA demonstrates Bauchi State’s progressive steps in providing healthcare services coverage for its workforce, setting a model for public sector welfare in Nigeria.”

Civil servants across State have lauded the government’s efforts, expressing optimism about the scheme’s positive impact on their access to quality and affordable healthcare.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Toro Local Government Area, Pharmacist ibr Abubakar Dembo has facilitated the donations of a Motorcycle, Computer and Office seaters, to the PHC Department from Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency (BASHCMA).

The Chairperson witnessed the donations of the working machines to the PHC Dept in order to support the mobility of Tuberculosis Disease Field workers for smoothness and effective service delivery.

The Director, PHC was also received by the Chairperson whobriefed him on the ongoing Polio Vaccination exercise and further discussed concerned areas for synergy.

Head of Administration, Toro Local Government, thanked the BASHCMA for the support and promised to maintain the sustainability of the machines received.

The Chairman appreciated the committee for considering Toro LGA field workers, and urged the beneficiaries to utilize the equipments for effective healthcare service delivery across Toro Local Government.

He assured them of his passion for collaboration and partnership to transforming the health care department.
