Bauchi NUJ lauds Governor Mohammed for conducting LG election

Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has described as commendable the resolve of the state Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir to conduct local government elections almost thirteen years after such a process was held in the state.

The union believes that local governments, being closer to the rural people will perform better when there are democratically elected council members at the helm of affairs.

It further observed that This giant stride by governor Bala Mohammed is a clear manifestation of the desire of his government to ensure full participation of the people particularly rural dwellers in the democratic process.

The NUJ urged the State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) to ensure a free, fair and credible elections by providing a level playing ground for all political parties for the development of the state.

The union also enjoined journalists in the state to ensure professionalism by being objective fairness and balance in the discharge of their constitutional mandates as well as to ensure their own safety through out the period of the election.

The NUJ then called on security agencies to assist journalists to carryout their assignments without difficulty as partners in progress as contained in a statement by Isah Garba Gadau, Secretary of the Council.
