Commercial drivers particularly those driving government owned mass transit buses have been advised to always adhere strictly to all traffic rules and regulations in order to minimize casualties and road crashes.
The advice was given by the Coordinator of the Special Marshall (SM} of the Bauchi State Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Kunle Gbadamosi during an early morning public enlightenment campaign held at Yankari Transport Corporation Terminal, Bauchi on Saturday.
Speaking through the Public Education Officer (PEO) Mukaila Adeyemi, the State Coordinator stressed the importance of driving with sanity of mind as well as being focused while behind the steering.
He advised the drivers to always rest very well before embarking on a journey stressing that even while on the road, they should feel free to stop and rest before proceeding in order to relax their nerves and do away with stress which can lead to napping behind the steering.
According to him, “You guys should avoid making phone calls while driving, overspending, dangerous overtaking and drunk driving saying that all those can lead to fatal crashes if not done away with.
He further charged them to always ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before hitting the highway just as he urged them to always lodge complaints of need for repairs to the management for prompt attention.
The passengers too were reminded that they have rights while in the bus as they can caution the driver if he drives dangerously by making calls, overtaken wrongly and drinking while driving.
In his contribution, the Deputy Liaison Officer of FRSC /SM, Malam Tukur lamented that more half of the crashes in the state are caused be government driven commercial buses particularly those from Adamawa, Borno, Yobe and Taraba states.
While commending drivers of Yankari Transport Corporation for professionalism, he urged them to continue to drive with caution and observance of the traffic rules and regulations.
The Chief Driver of Yankari Transport Corporation thanked the Special Marshall for the enlightenment and education assuring that his drivers will continue to be professionals that they are in the cause of their work.
