Bauchi spinal cord injury victims implores creation of rehabilitation centre

Members of Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria Bauchi have clamoured for the need to create rehabilitation centre to alleviate the sufferings of persons with Spinal cord injury.

Charman of Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria Bauchi State Chapter Mallam Iliya Ismail who made this known at a maiden commemoration of spinal cord injuries Association of Nigeria Bauchi State Chapter added that the centre will help to reduce their plights.

“We emphasise the issue of rehabilitation centre because it is very important to us, comprehensive rehabilitation centre which will consist physioterapy, education and Skills Acqisition facilities.

“There is need for a rigorous physioterapy, we cannot afford to go to hospital for physioterapy sevices which cost N500 daily; but, if we have our own rehabilitation centre, we can dị it at will and it can improve our condition,” he said.

On his part, Chief Medical Director Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi Dr. Yusuf Jibrin said they have been rendering all the necesarily support the much they could to them.

Represented by Dr. Ibrahim S. Shuabu a consultant othorpaedic and trauma Surgeon ATBU Teaching Hospital, the chief Medical Director said they are willing to offer Space, assostance and personnel for those that want to sponsor such rehabilitation centres.

He added that the expensive nature of managing and curing a spinal cord injury made it important for sponsorship of rehabilitation centres in the state.

Represented by Supritendent Yakubu Ali Baba, the State Commandant Federal Road Safety Corps said passengers should not allow drivers to Drive recklessly to reduce Road accidents which is a major cause of spinal cord injury.

Another speaker, General Ladan Yusuf said they need all the assistance they could get especially from top government officials representating them at various levels.
