The Bauchi State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has constituted a 3-member Electoral Committee to conduct its forthcoming state election, scheduled for April this year.
The Committee was constituted during the Congress of the Association held at the Conference Hall of NUJ Press Centre, Bauchi on Thursday.
According to the Communique issued at the end of the Congress, Ishola Michael Adeyemi, Assistant Northern Bureau Chief of Nigerian Tribune Newspapers, Kabiru Ahmed Ilelah of BATV and Kabiru Abubakar were selected as members of the Electoral Committee.
SWAN commended Bauchi state Government for the support given to all sporting activities in the state just as it equally applauded the state commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Muhammad Salis Gamawa for his efforts in ensuring Bauchi marked its name as the maker of sports in Nigeria.
The Association stressed that presently, the Commissioner is in Europe for an official assignment to arrange ‘The Bauchi State Festival’ later this year.
The Congress also called on the Sports Writers to develop more interest in reporting other sporting activities across the state rather than focusing on football alone.
It advised State Executive members of the Association should intimate the State Ministry of Education on developing and organising schools’ sports as a way of encouraging younger ones and talent discovery.
The Congress again, called for unity among members of the Sports Writers in the state stating that it is only through unity that development will be achieved.
The Congress then pleaged its total support to the National Executive Committee (NEC) led by Mr Isaiah Benjamin.
The Communique drafting Committee had as members: Aliyu Sambo (Chairman); Jibrin Hussaini Kundum (Secretary) and Imran Yakubu Galaje (member) as presented by Bala Bawaji, State Secretary.
