Elections into the executive of the Benue State council of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has been concluded.
The elections held at the NUJ House had 24 deligates to decide the fate of two contestants for the chairmanship and two others for the position of the secretary.
Mr. Patrick Omora of the Radio Benue chapel lost 10-13 votes to the correspondents chapel’s Mr. John Shi-Aondo. Mr. Tamenor Kwaghzer of Echo/Mirror chapel defeated Mr. Daniel Uza of Harvest FM chapel 16-7 to become the state secretary.
The posts of Assistant secretary, Treasurer and Financial secretary went to Mr. Chiangi Avese of the Ontiv chapel, Mr. Uche Nnorom, and Ms. Hembadoon Orsar both of the correspondents chapel respectively.
The congress also agreed to, and conducted a by election into the posts of Vice Chairman and Auditor which went to Mr. Patrick Omora, Radio Benue, and Mr. Terna Alaghga of the Voice chapel.
Chairman of the election committee, Mr. Isaac Kertyo who had earlier in a welcome address appealed for orderliness, thanked deligates for peaceful conduct during the elections. He appreciated the State council of the NUJ for giving him and his team the opportunity to serve.
In his remarks, the Acting Chairman, NUJ Benue State council, Mr. Martins Kajo thanked the election committee members and deligates for a job well done and the impressive turn out.
Mr. Kajo said, “I hope that the elections has brought on board an experienced EXCO that would bring their weights of experiences to propel SWAN from the near dormant state to another level”.
The North-Central zonal vice chairman of SWAN, Mr. Emmanuel Ujah, while thanking all that were present and appreciating them for their time, offered that, he is available willing and ready to give any kind of assistance to the new EXCO to enable it succeed.
He said, “the cooperation that brought about the new EXCO should be sustained as lack of it would forced the association back to the bad past!”
