Boko Haram: Group knocks Amnesty, National Assembly over military actions
Nigeria Islamist extremist group Boko Haram has been waging a terrorist’s war against the Nigerian State for over a decade yet Amnesty International instead of supporting the Nigerian military to combat the deadly insurgents that have maimed, killed and orphaned millions of children in northern Nigeria is manipulating and orchestrating a campaign of calumny against the Nigerian military.
In a press statement made available to Apex News in Abuja Monday by Agenda for Peace and Security in Africa (APSA) and signed by the National Co-ordinator, Comrade Ishola Isiaka, he lamented that the so-called Amnesty International report alleging cases of rape by men of the Nigerian armed forces at the camp of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was baseless and malicious.
The group chided Amnesty International for constantly engaging in acts and comments antithetical to humanity by defending Boko Haram terrorists and criminality who has been propagating violence and hatred for western education in Nigeria.
It also lambasted the National Assembly for constituting a kangaroo committee to investigate the alleged atrocities at the IDP’s camp instead of being on the side of the Nigerian military knowing fully well AI’s style of blackmail and propaganda against the Nigeria military.
The National Co-ordinator emphasized that the National Assembly should rather join hands with the Nigerian military to appropriate more funds for the Nigerian military so as to enhance the purchase of military equipment and the standardization of human capacity development for the overall sustenance of peace and security in Nigeria.
Speaking further the group admonished Amnesty International to partner with the Nigerian military to crush the Boko Haram insurgents so as the end the bloodshed, misery and poverty are being inflicted on a regular basis on the people of north-east by the Boko Haram insurgents instead of supporting Boko Haram against the military.
The group noted that well-meaning Nigerians are totally on the side of the Nigerian military and will continue to support its efforts of combating terrorism and criminalities across the length and breadth of the country and called on the international agencies to lend their support at eradicating this menace once and for all. It enjoined Nigerians that security is every body’s business and we must share intelligence with the security agencies so as to forestall any security breach within the country.
Concluding, Agenda for Peace and Security in Africa urged Amnesty International to embrace the international war against terrorism in Nigeria as Nigerian military scales up its war against the Boko Haram insurgents noting the Buhari Administration has performed creditably in combating the deadly terrorists in Nigeria.
Despite spirited entreaties by the Nigeria Army to Amnesty International for a balanced report, it appears that the so-called human rights advocacy group is bent on truncating Nigeria’s nascent democracy by pitting the public against the Nigerian State.
The Nigeria Army, according to the group, is complying with the rules of engagement and must not be distracted in her avowed commitment to restore peace and security in the North East.
