Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has kicked off the foundation stone for the reconstruction and upgrading of the Bauchi Government House, saying that North-East governors are determined to bring positive changes to the sub-region. The project is designed to produce a strong physical plan, tailored towards developing a modern and functional government house complex with a sense of balance and exquisiteness which embodies the strength and gravities of Bauchi State government. Before the foundation laying, Governor Zulum said that in order to address the root causes of insurgency that is not limited to endemic poverty, illiteracy and social inequality, environmental degradation, unemployment amongst others, governors of the North-east have no other option than to provide the necessary infrastructures that will create jobs in the zone. He told the governors of the North-East that they must leave the comfort of their Zone to attend to the demands of the poor and vulnerable who are affected as a result of poor governance, high handedness, corruption amongst others, adding that this is the right time for things to be done in order to move the nation forward. “The North-East Governors’ Forum that was established recently , has made tremendous efforts in repositioning the North-East sub-region. “Among the resolutions that were considered at the North-east governor’s forum is the establishment of the northeast airline. This will go a long way in easing the transportation problems of the people of the northeast. “We are also looking into the possibility of establishing a sub-regional security outfit that will address the lingering security situation of the zone. “In addition to this, we want to ensure the establishment of the North-east bank that will provide enabling finances through our SMEs, especially the vulnerable to earn their means of livelihood,” he said. While commending Governor Bala Mohammed for the laudable projects executed under his administration, the Borno State Governor said the reconstruction and upgrading of the Government House project was a good one as it will establish a veritable and civil administration in Bauchi state and will also creat job to our teaming youth across the zone. Earlier in his speech, Governor Bala Mohammed, while describing Governor Zulum as a person of pedigree and a Nigerian by all ramification said the project will cost N6.2 billion and will include complete demolishing of the current government house in Bauchi. He noted that regional collaboration between the Governors of the North-east has brought unity in the region, stressing that despite the fact that the governors of the northeast are from different political divide, they are still bonded by the desire to bring development in their respective states. “This project is conceptualized in order to give Bauchi state renewal a new impetus by giving us a befitting government house that is the same with another government house in the country, even Gombe state that came out of Bauchi state, their government house is better than our own. “I believe that we should positively compete; I went to Adamawa, I saw what my brother did in Adamawa, so it is the place I borrowed an idea that we Should do something", he said. Governor Bala said this project serves as a legacy landmark to be left behind by his administration for posterity and the good people of Bauchi State as devidends of democracy.
