Governor Yari of Zamfara State
No fewer than 20 medical doctors are said to have left the services of Zamfara state government between January and June this year in search of greener pasture.
The Medical Director in-charge of the state owned Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau, Dr. Bello Mohammed made the disclosure at a press briefing in Gusau on Wednesday.
He said that all the affected doctors were serving at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital but left to where they believed they would enjoy more training to better their professionalism, experience and performance even through residence training.
He said, “Since the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital has now been fully accredited by the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council,” it was now set to commence training of fresh graduates of medicine and surgery.
He appealed to the state government to support the facility so that it would start residency programme which would in turn, check the ugly trend of brain drain being experienced by the hospital.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) however, reports that the state government had recently recruited 100 medical doctors and over 300 health workers.
