The Spokesman of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, a spiritual Organization, Patriarch Christ Shepherd Edet Archibong has said that they will continue to make practical and spiritual interventions in Akwa Ibom State for sake of its continued prosperity, peace and unity.
He further stated that the state remains a big project of its spiritual leader, Olumba Olumba Obu whose prayers and declaration seven years earlier brought its creation and as well as Katsina State simultaneously.
Archibong addressed the press ahead of this weekend’s Peace and Unity Love Feast the organisation is about to celebrate in the state, adding that the Feast is usually held annually in appreciation for God’s favours bestowed upon the state.
He narrated that prior to its creation the and following the outcry of the people of the former mainland part of the old Cross River State over margination and appeals for their own state, their leader had directed them to gather in the three headquarters of the three major ethnic groups in the state and celebrate what he called Love Feast.
“Our Father and Leader, Olumba Olumba Obu instructed the key traditional and religious leaders and BCS stakeholders to gather in Oron and celebrate feast, after which they should do same in Ikot Ekpene and finally climax the celebration in Uyo for same feast. Fortunately, they complied.
“During same time, our Leader also sent a delegation to meet with the Emir of Katsina, telling him that God has also heard their cries for a state. The delegation was well received.
“The result was that six months after, the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida on 23 September 1987 announced the creation of the two states.
“Ever since the Leader has taken especial interest in the states. Aka Ibom State is his project.
“So the annual love and Peace feast is a deliberate way of spiritually intervening and sustaining peace and unity in the states, ensuring steady progress”, he said.
The Spokesman said this year’s Love and Unity Feast is the 35th so far, adding that it’s significance and impacts in the state have been far-reaching in social as well as economic spheres of the state.
“This is why crime rates and tension are not as alarming as elsewhere. There’s steady progress in the state, and the ethnic groups see themselves largely as one people.”
The one week celebration holds from Monday 9th and climax on Saturday 14th May 2022 at Oron Local Government Area of the state.
