Centre, civil society groups honour Zamfara Governor, Matawalle

Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has been honoured for outstanding performances as chief executive of the state.

The governor was conferred with an Excellent Leadership Award by the Centre for Peace, Transparency and Accountability in recognition of his efforts in addressing security issues and bringing peace and development to Zamfara state.

He also received a Certificate of Performance from the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG).

The awards took place in a separate ceremonies in Gusau on Friday.

Presenting the award of Excellent Leadership to the governor, the Executive Director of the Centre for Peace, Comrade Patrick Ogheneyero said the exemplary leadership qualities being demonstrated by the governor have been a rallying point for the organisation over time.

This according to him, reflected unflinching commitment to the tenets of good governance best practice that are worthy of emulation for democracy to thrive.

Also, the National President of the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic said while making his presentation, said 186 civil society groups in Nigeria under his leadership concluded and adjudged the governor as the best performer as a state governor and also recommended him for a higher national responsibility in the country.

The national president argued that his team had gone round the state including visitation to the RUGA Modern Herders settlement established by the Matawalle’s administration and was convinced that the project is the best roadmap to lasting and sustainable peace in Nigeria, thus, making the governor a true nationalist.

He urged other governors in the coutry to emulate Matawalle for such sterling and laudable qualities of giving all sections and people a sense of belonging.

A statement by the Director General, Media Public Enlightenment and Communication, Yusuf Idris Gusau quoted Matawalle as saying that the awards would be a spring board for better service delivery.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Col Bala Mande rtd, the governor pointed out that he never thought his modest effort was being monitored by persons he felt were less bothered by what was happening in Zamfara .

Matawalle expressed happiness in people’s realisation in the kinetic and non-kinetic approach to the security situation bedeviling the state.

He promised that Zamfara will be acknowledged as banditry-free state in the country soon as the state and federal governments are doing everything possible to bring the situation to a logical end.
