Child morbidity: Nasarawa partners IMPACT to build 58 PHC facilities

The Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in conjunction with Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Service (IMPACT), to build 58 health care facilities across the 13 local government areas of the state to tackle Maternal Mortality and child Morbidity in the state.

Our correspondent reports that the project which is supported by the World Bank is state governments initiative for sustainable health and attaining universal health coverage in the state.

Program Manager of IMPACT, Adamu Yakubu-Ohaganyi disclosed this to journalists shortly after a bid opening ceremony on Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Service IMPACT Project in Lafia, the state capital.

He, however, described IMPACT as a project designed to improve maternal and child health, nothing that the renovation of the 58 health care facilities across the state was aimed at improving healthcare service delivery to address Maternal and child Motility and mobility.

Explaining the rationale behind the bidding exercise, the state Project Manager of the IMPACT Project, Yakubu-Ohagenyi, revealed that a total of 14 companies have bided for the contract for upgrade of facilities across the state, stressing that contractors will be awarded based on merit.

He said, “The Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services, IMPACT, Project is to renovate 58 Health care Facilities in Nasarawa state with a view to addressing maternal and child related death.”

Earlier, the Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Usman Iskilu-Saleh stated that the agency has taken proactive steps to revitalize primary healthcare facilities across the state.

Dr. Iskilu-Saleh who was represented by the Director, Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Stephen Iliya-Sasetu while addressing the bidders, explained the primary responsibility of the agency was to provide quality healthcare services to communities, reiterating the agency’s resolve to strengthen the health sector.

Dr. Iskilu-Saleh noted that available resources for the implementation of the IMPACT Project, is an important step not only in enhancing maternal and child health but improve the livelihoods of people, especially those at the remote communities, and charged yet to be awarded contractors to ensure quality outputs.

Responding, the Emir of Lafia Justice Sidi Bage Mohammed while appreciating IMPACT Project for the implementation of human driven projects in the state, assured of his commitment to give the necessary support to the Project for the benefit of the people of the state.

The royal father equally assured of the traditional councils commitment to achieving objectives of the Project with a view to improving quality of health and proper utilization of PHCs services to reduce Maternal Mortality and child Morbidity to the barest minimum.

Speaking on behalf of the bidders, Upaa Tarfa-Richard from Tyonex Nigeria Limited, expressed satisfaction with the process and commended Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency for giving them the opportunity, and appealed to the evaluation committee to be transparent in the evaluation process.
