Justice Ifeanyi Nweze of Onitsha High Court in Anambra State has dismissed a case of defemation of character brought against Ifechi Anozie, an Onitsha businessman by Donatus Obi, Chairman of Three -Man Administrator of Electronics Dealers Association of Onitsha (EDAO)
Obi had dragged Anozie, a trader at the Electronics Market, Onitsha, to Court claiming N100m,500,000 for allegedly saying in a voice recording that Obi and his cohorts sold the land belonging to the market in Iyiowa, Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Court had earlier struck out the matter last year but was later reinstated by Obi’s counsel. The matter was struck out because the Judge had said that Obi had no substance to continue with the matter.
But during the hearing after the case was reinstated Obi brought two witnesses, Simeon Ukwuma, a tout who collects revenue illegally for Obi at the market park and Nimson Maduakolam, a member of Obi’s illegal Peace Committee.
However, in his Judgement, Justice Nweze said Obi,the plaintiff could not prove his case even as the two witnesses he produced were against him.
The Judge did not however award cost against Obi apparently because he fell down at the court during the judgment.
Justice Nweze said the cost could be higher than N10m but asked the defendant to ignore it.
This brings to eight out of nine cases Anozie had won against Obi since he became the chairman of the Three-Man administrator.
