Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has asked his commissioner for health to proceed to London immediately and take over the management of the ill health of the former Senate President, Senator Joseph Wayas.

Wayas is reported to be critically ill in a London hospital.

Wayas was Senate President in the second Republic between 1979 to 1983 when Alhaji Shehu Shagari was president.

The governor confirmed the ill health in a statement and said that the state will take over the medical treatment of the elder statesman.

Edu is to take over the management of the treatment and nurse the elder statesman back to good health.

The governor in a statement signed by Christian Ita, his media chief, said “No amount should be spared by the state to ensure that good medical care is given to the former number three citizen.”
