A former Special Adviser on Religious Affairs to ex-Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, Rev. Eyo Okpo-Ene has asserted that the people in the state are very dissatisfied and frustrated with the present government in the state.
According to him, people are looking for a new face, a new leader whose ideas work, who will talk with them and not just talking to them.
He said in an interview in Calabar, that “In the last few years, I have listened to many people who are frustrated and dissatisfied with government.
“People are troubled by the leadership recruitment process and the total lack of governance in our State. They deplore the absence of effective business management in government.
“I have lived in the State my entire life. I have witnessed the changes that have taken place- the progress of the period 1999 – 2015 and the retrogression in the last 6 years. I understand the issues and the problems. I have experienced them first hand.”
Okpo-Ene who is set to formally declare in intention to vie for the governorship election next year on the platform bof PDP, said he is well prepared for the race although it is yet saturated with moneybags.
“I would not enter this formidable race if l did not believe that l can win; but neither would l run for Governor without a deep conviction that l can make an essential contribution to the Cross River State Government and the people it serves.
“I plan to take my campaign to Cross Riverians, just as I did in Odukpani Local Government some years ago, when I ran to be Council Chairman, and with as much success. I served my people faithfully as a young man, initiating and completing human capacity building and infrastructural development projects relevant at time.
“Some people may consider it a daunting task. But I think that they have overlooked several important facts.”
The one time chairman of Odukpani LGA of Cross River State further asserted that the state needs a bold, competent and honest leadership to revamp it from the depth it has been sunk.
He maintained that the problems which plague the Cross River people can be solved with leadership integrity, commitment and excellence.
He said that people are disillusioned with the present state of affairs in our state, which in six years has nipped.
